When is a delivery challan used instead of an invoice?
When goods move but the sale is not complete: job work, supply on approval or sale-or-return, stock transfer between your branches, or goods sent in multiple lots against one invoice.
Is an e-way bill needed with a delivery challan?
An e-way bill is generally required when the consignment value exceeds ₹50,000 (limits vary for some states and intra-state movement), even with a challan. Generate it on the e-way bill portal and enter its number in the challan.
How many copies of a delivery challan are needed?
Commonly three: original for the consignee, duplicate for the transporter and triplicate for the consignor. Print the same challan three times and mark each copy.
